Product FAQ

1. Pre-Purchase & Selection
NEOREST
What is a NEOREST toilet?

NEOREST is TOTO’s integrated toilet line combining a toilet and bidet functions in a coordinated design. Features, flush system, controls and installation requirements vary by model.

How is NEOREST different from a toilet with a separate WASHLET?

NEOREST integrates the cleansing seat and toilet as one system and may include coordinated automatic functions. A separate WASHLET offers more flexibility to pair a compatible seat and toilet.

What utilities are required for NEOREST?

NEOREST installations require the water supply, electrical service, drainage, rough-in and clearances stated for the exact model. Plan these conditions before construction or remodeling.

Who should install a NEOREST?

Use qualified plumbing and electrical professionals familiar with the model’s installation requirements and local codes. Correct rough-in and utility placement are essential.

Can NEOREST flush during a power outage?

Emergency-flush capability and procedure vary by model. Review the instruction manual in advance and keep any specified accessory or procedure available.

Where is the manual or emergency flush control?

Its location and operation vary by model. Consult the model’s instruction manual rather than removing covers or forcing controls.

Can automatic flushing be turned off?

On equipped models, automatic flushing can generally be adjusted or disabled using the specified settings procedure. Refer to the manual for the exact sequence.

Can the NEOREST automatic lid be disabled?

On equipped models, automatic lid operation can be adjusted or turned off. Follow the model-specific remote-control instructions.

What should I do if NEOREST displays an error?

Record the code and symptoms, stop use if there is leakage, overheating or electrical concern, and follow the manual’s stated action. Contact TOTO support if the error remains.

How should I clean a NEOREST?

Follow both the vitreous-china and electronic-seat care instructions. Use soft materials and approved mild cleaners, and prevent liquid from entering electrical or mechanical areas.

Does hard water affect NEOREST?

Minerals can affect water passages and cleaning over time. Follow approved maintenance procedures and consult TOTO support about model-specific care; do not add unapproved chemicals.

What should I confirm before ordering NEOREST for a remodel?

Confirm rough-in, drain configuration, water pressure, electrical circuit and outlet location, wall and floor clearances, delivery access and installer capability using the current specification and installation documents.

Can I install only the top WASHLET (functional) part of the NEOREST onto a different toilet bowl?

No. The NEOREST bowl and the top unit are exclusively designed as an integrated system, so the top part cannot be transferred or installed onto a standard toilet bowl, or another NEOREST model.

Does the toilet have a feature that automatically deodorizes the room when entering (Air Deodorizer)?

Yes, NEOREST models feature an advanced "Air Deodorizer" system. When the sensor detects a user entering, it automatically starts deodorizing the space and continues for a set time after use to minimize lingering odors.

The ceramic bowl looks like it could last for decades, but when should the entire NEOREST be replaced?

TOTO products are designed with longevity in mind, but product lifespan is affected by a variety of factors, including but not limited to: - Environmental conditions, such as water supply, humidity, or temperature - Service and maintenance - Usage For additional information, please consult the "Product Service Life and Extended Use Disclaimer" at https://www.totousa.com/warranty-registration, or speak to a TOTO Technical Service agent 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

WASHLET
What is a TOTO WASHLET?

A TOTO WASHLET is an electronic bidet seat that adds cleansing and comfort functions to a compatible toilet. Features vary by model and may include warm-water cleansing, a heated seat, a warm-air dryer, deodorizer, PREMIST®, EWATER+® and automatic operation.

Will a WASHLET fit an elongated toilet?

Many TOTO WASHLET models are designed for elongated bowls. Confirm the bowl shape, mounting-hole spacing, available space from the mounting holes to the tank, and the dimensions shown on the WASHLET specification sheet before purchase.

Will a WASHLET fit a round-front toilet?

Most current WASHLET models are designed for elongated bowls, and availability for round-front bowls is limited. Check the model specification sheet and measure the toilet before ordering.

Can I install a TOTO WASHLET on a non-TOTO toilet?

Often yes. Compatibility depends on bowl shape, mounting dimensions, tank clearance, water connection and access to a suitable electrical outlet. Compare your toilet measurements with the selected WASHLET specification sheet.

How do I measure my toilet for WASHLET compatibility?

Measure from the center of the seat-mounting holes to the front edge of the bowl, the spacing between the mounting holes, and the clearance from the mounting holes to the tank or obstruction. Compare all measurements with the selected model’s dimensional drawing.

Can a WASHLET be installed on a skirted toilet?

Yes, many skirted toilets can accept a WASHLET, but the water connection and mounting hardware may differ. Review the toilet and WASHLET installation instructions and confirm whether an alternate adapter or top-mount hardware is required.

Can a WASHLET be installed on a one-piece toilet?

Yes, if the bowl shape, mounting area and tank clearance match the WASHLET dimensions. Fully skirted and compact one-piece designs may require closer measurement or special installation access.

Can a WASHLET be used with a wall-hung toilet?

It may be possible when the bowl is compatible and an accessible water supply and grounded outlet are available. Confirm the exact bowl and WASHLET combination before construction because concealed plumbing can limit later changes.

What does WASHLET+ mean?

WASHLET+ toilets and compatible WASHLET seats are designed to conceal the water and power connections for a cleaner appearance. Both components must be designated WASHLET+ compatible; a standard WASHLET does not automatically create the concealed-connection installation.

Can I use a standard WASHLET on a WASHLET+ toilet?

Physical fit may vary, but the concealed WASHLET+ connection requires a designated compatible combination. Use TOTO’s compatibility information or confirm the exact toilet and seat model numbers before purchase.

What is the difference between WASHLET models?

Models differ in water-heating method, remote or side-panel control, cleansing functions, dryer, deodorizer, bowl-misting and self-cleaning technologies, nightlight and automatic features. Use the product comparison tool and verify the final specification sheet.

What is the difference between instantaneous and reservoir water heating?

Instantaneous systems heat water as it is used and are designed for continuous warm-water cleansing. Reservoir systems preheat a limited amount of water. Energy use, product size and performance vary by model.

Should I choose a remote-control or side-panel WASHLET?

A remote control can be easier to reach and provides a cleaner seat profile. A side panel keeps the controls attached to the unit. Choose based on user reach, bathroom layout and preferred features.

Is WASHLET suitable for older adults or users with limited mobility?

WASHLET may reduce reaching and support independent hygiene, but suitability depends on the user’s mobility, balance and ability to operate the controls safely. Consider remote-control placement, seat height and professional guidance for accessibility needs.

Can children use a WASHLET?

Children should use WASHLET only when they can sit securely and understand the controls, with adult supervision as appropriate. Use gentle settings and follow the age and safety guidance in the model’s instruction manual.

Can a pregnant person use a WASHLET?

WASHLET provides external cleansing, but personal medical circumstances differ. Use comfortable temperature and pressure settings and consult a healthcare professional if there are medical concerns.

Does WASHLET require a separate hot-water connection?

No. Electronic WASHLET models connect to the toilet’s cold-water supply and heat the cleansing water inside the unit. The exact connection parts are listed in the installation instructions.

Does every WASHLET require electricity?

Electronic WASHLET models require electricity for heating, controls and other functions. Confirm the rated voltage, outlet location and circuit requirements in the specification sheet and local electrical code.

How is WASHLET different from a non-electric bidet seat?

WASHLET is an electronic bidet seat with model-dependent features such as warm water, adjustable spray, heated seat, dryer, deodorizer and automated cleaning. Non-electric seats generally rely on water pressure and do not provide powered comfort functions.

How do I match a WASHLET color to my toilet?

Match the color code shown on the toilet and WASHLET product information rather than relying on screen appearance. If the existing toilet color is uncertain, identify its model and color code or order a physical color sample where available.

How long can I expect the WASHLET to last? (Product Lifespan)

What is the difference between a standalone WASHLET (like the S7A) and a NEOREST toilet?

High-end WASHLETs like the S7A have many of the same features as a NEOREST, including auto-open/close, instantaneous warm water, and auto-flush capability. The main difference is that a NEOREST is a complete, integrated smart toilet with the bidet features built-in seamlessly, whereas a WASHLET is an electronic bidet seat added to a separate toilet bowl. Warranty periods and service options may also differ.

Will a retail-specific WASHLET model (like the ones sold at Costco) fit my standard TOTO toilet?

Yes, absolutely! Whether you purchase a WASHLET from a wholesale showroom or a specific retail model (such as T1SW2491 from Costco), as long as it is a TOTO WASHLET going onto a standard TOTO toilet bowl of the same shape (elongated or round), it is fully compatible and will fit perfectly.

Can I connect a new WASHLET to an older TOTO toilet that does not support auto-flush?

Yes, you can install a WASHLET on an older TOTO toilet even if it does not support auto-flush. You may need a specific connector part (e.g., 9AU321-A) to complete the installation. Contact Technical Support with your toilet and WASHLET model numbers to check compatibility. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

I want a toilet with a heated seat, bidet, and night light, but my budget is limited. What do you recommend?

Instead of purchasing a fully integrated smart toilet (like the NEOREST), we recommend buying a standard TOTO toilet and pairing it with a WASHLET bidet seat. This gives you features like a heated seat, warm water cleansing, and a night light at a much more affordable price point.

We have hard water in our area. Can this cause problems with my WASHLET?

Yes, over time, hard water and mineral deposits can clog internal filters or the WASHLET wand, and cause the WASHLET to lose water pressure. To help prevent this, clean the water filter and wand periodically. If pressure issues persist, the unit may require factory repair.

TOILET, IN WALL TANK
What is the difference between a one-piece and two-piece toilet?

A one-piece toilet integrates the tank and bowl for a streamlined profile and fewer exterior seams. A two-piece toilet has a separate tank and bowl and may be easier to transport. Performance depends on the specific model.

What is the difference between elongated and round-front bowls?

Elongated bowls generally provide more seating space, while round-front bowls can save room in compact bathrooms. Confirm the rough-in, overall dimensions and applicable clearance codes.

What does Universal Height mean?

Universal Height identifies TOTO products designed with a seat height intended to provide comfortable use for a broad range of people. Compliance and final seat height depend on the exact model and seat selected.

What is toilet rough-in distance?

Rough-in is generally measured from the finished wall to the center of the floor drain or closet bolts, excluding the baseboard. Common sizes vary, so measure the actual installation and confirm the model specification.

Can a 12-inch rough-in toilet be installed on a 10-inch or 14-inch rough-in?

Not unless the specific model supports the required rough-in through a compatible adapter or configuration. Check the specification sheet before purchase.

What does 1.28 GPF mean?

GPF means gallons per flush. A 1.28 GPF toilet is designed to use 1.28 gallons in its rated flush cycle under specified test conditions.

How does a dual-flush toilet work?

A dual-flush toilet provides separate flush volumes, typically a lower-volume option for liquid waste and a higher-volume option for solid waste. Use the button or actuator marking shown for the model.

What is TORNADO FLUSH®?

TORNADO FLUSH is TOTO’s rim-design and water-delivery technology used on selected toilets to wash the bowl efficiently. The configuration and flush volume vary by model.

Can the S7 WASHLET automatically open and close the lid on a wall-hung toilet?

The standard S7 WASHLET does NOT feature the auto open/close lid function. If you want the auto open/close feature for your wall-hung toilet, you must purchase the S7A model instead.

Does the wall-hung WASHLET+ system (like the RP/RX series) plug into a standard wall outlet?

No. The RP and RX wall-hung WASHLET+ systems are designed for a seamless, concealed look. The electrical connection is hardwired directly behind the toilet into a terminal box, rather than using an exposed exterior wall outlet.

What are the advantages and maintenance precautions of a wall-hung toilet?

The main advantages are that it does not touch the floor, making floor cleaning exceptionally easy, and it creates a sleek, modern look. Maintenance of the tank components are similar to that of a standard toilet, but the tank is accessed by removing the push button plate on the wall.

Can I add the auto flush feature to my S5 WASHLET on an in-wall tank system?

No, the S5 WASHLET does not support the auto flush feature. If you want auto flush capabilities, you will need to upgrade to the S7 or S7A WASHLET models, which offer the auto flush feature as an add-on option. You must also have the correct in-wall tank system for autoflush, the WT173MA. In-wall tanks cannot be retrofitted for autoflush.

Does the in-wall tank carrier come with the auto flush kit pre-installed?

Specific models of TOTO In-wall tank come with pre-installed auto flush units. In-wall tanks cannot be retrofitted for auto flush after installation.

What is the difference between the YT930 and YT970 push plates for the in-wall carrier?

The YT930 series push plates are made of a durable resin/plastic material, while the YT970 series is made of heavier-duty stainless steel or metal. Both are compatible with TOTO in-wall carrier models WT171M, WT172M, WT173M, WT173MA, WT174M, and WT175MA, but the YT970 provides a more premium metallic finish.

Do you offer push plates for in-wall tanks in a gold or brass finish?

No. Currently, TOTO push plates are not manufactured in gold or brass finishes. Available finishes typically include Cotton White, Matte Black, Stainless Steel, and Brushed/Polished Nickel.

Is the distance between the mounting holes on the bowl different for every product?

No. Standard toilets in the US market, including TOTO products, have a standardized mounting hole spread of 5.5 inches (approx. 140mm), meaning most standard seats will mount properly.

What is the lifespan (durability) of the ceramic toilet bowl itself?

Will upgrading to a high-efficiency toilet (e.g., 1.28 gpf or 1.0 gpf) cause it to clog more easily than my old toilet?

No. TOTO’s high-efficiency toilets are engineered with advanced flushing technologies (such as Tornado Flush) that deliver equal or superior waste evacuation compared to older toilets (e.g., 3.5 gpf), using far less water. It will not clog more easily under normal use.

I have an older, discontinued TOTO toilet (like the Clayton CST784). Can I still install a WASHLET on it?

Yes, you can typically install a standard WASHLET on older or discontinued TOTO toilets. However, you will need a standard WASHLET, not a ’WASHLET+’ model (which requires a specific toilet design to conceal the cord and hose). Also, features like auto-flush may not be compatible with older toilet models. Contact TOTO Tech Service for details on which models can be installed in the standard installation.

FAUCETS
How do I choose the correct TOTO faucet for my sink?

Match the sink’s hole count and spacing, mounting surface thickness, spout reach and height, drain requirements, water connections and available clearance to the faucet specification sheet.

Why does my faucet have low water flow?

Check that shutoff valves are open, supply hoses are not kinked and the aerator is clean. If both hot and cold flow are low, inspect supply pressure and installation conditions.

Why does my faucet drip after it is turned off?

A worn cartridge, debris or incorrect assembly may prevent sealing. Identify the faucet model and use the specified service parts; close the water supply before repair.

Why is water leaking around the faucet base?

Check whether water is coming from the faucet body, mounting area, supply connection or splash from the sink. Tighten or service only as directed and correct persistent leaks promptly.

How do I clean mineral buildup from a showerhead?

Follow the model care instructions and clean spray nozzles gently. Do not soak specialty finishes or internal components in chemicals unless specifically allowed.

Can I replace shower trim without replacing the rough valve?

Only when the new trim is listed as compatible with the installed rough valve and cartridge. Identify existing model numbers before ordering; appearance alone is not enough.

I want to replace my faucet myself. Will it fit the existing mounting hole in my countertop/sink?

It will fit as long as the mounting hole diameter matches (standard single-hole faucets typically require a 35–38mm hole). If you have a traditional 3-hole layout (4-inch or 8-inch centerset), you can use a matching deck plate (escutcheon) to cover the extra holes and mount a single-hole faucet.

How long will a residential faucet typically last? (Lifespan of valves)

COMMERCIAL
What is the minimum water pressure required to install and operate a commercial flushometer toilet?

Commercial flush valves discharge a large volume of water instantly, so they generally require a high flowing pressure of at least 35 psi (0.24 MPa). Insufficient pressure will lead to poor evacuation and cause toilet paper clogs.

Is there a system available to refill multiple soap dispensers simultaneously from a single source?

Yes, for public restrooms, TOTO offers a "Multi-Feed Soap Dispenser System." Soap is supplied automatically (or via gravity) from one large centralized tank to each individual dispenser. This requires refilling at only one location, significantly reducing maintenance labor.

2. Installation & Setup
NEOREST
Can I install a NEOREST without reinforcing the bathroom floor?

The total weight of a NEOREST (ceramic bowl + functional unit) is around 40 to 50 kg (approx. 90-110 lbs), which is similar to or only slightly heavier than a standard toilet. Standard residential floors generally do not require reinforcement.

WASHLET
Can I install a WASHLET myself?

Many installations are straightforward for a compatible toilet with an accessible shutoff valve and grounded outlet. Follow the model-specific instructions exactly. Use a qualified plumber or electrician when connections, codes, outlet placement or site conditions are uncertain.

What type of electrical outlet does a WASHLET need?

Use the voltage, grounding and circuit protection specified for the exact model. The outlet must comply with applicable electrical codes and be located so the cord is not stretched, pinched or exposed to unsafe conditions.

Does a WASHLET need a GFCI-protected outlet?

Bathroom electrical requirements commonly include GFCI protection. Follow the model instructions and all national and local electrical codes; have a licensed electrician confirm the installation when needed.

Can I use an extension cord or power strip with a WASHLET?

Do not use an extension cord or power strip unless the model instructions expressly permit it. Install a properly located grounded outlet that meets the product rating and local electrical code.

Where should the WASHLET electrical outlet be located?

Use the location and clearance dimensions shown in the model’s specification and installation documents. The plug must remain accessible, and the cord must reach without tension or contact with moving or wet areas.

Does WASHLET need a dedicated electrical circuit?

Circuit requirements vary by model and local code. Review the rated power on the specification sheet and have a qualified electrician confirm available capacity and any dedicated-circuit requirement.

What water pressure is required for WASHLET?

The permitted supply-pressure range is listed in the model’s specification sheet. If household pressure is outside that range, contact a plumbing professional before installation.

Can WASHLET be connected to well water?

It may be used when the water meets applicable potable-water requirements and the pressure is within specification. Sediment, hardness or other water-quality conditions can increase maintenance needs; consult a water-treatment professional if necessary.

Where does the WASHLET get its water?

It normally connects to the toilet’s cold-water supply using the junction valve or connection parts provided or specified for the model. Do not improvise fittings; follow the installation instructions.

What if my toilet shutoff valve is difficult to reach or does not close?

Do not begin installation until the water can be shut off reliably. Have a plumber repair or replace an inaccessible, corroded or nonfunctioning valve.

How tight should the WASHLET water connections be?

Follow the specified hand-tightening and tool instructions for each fitting. Overtightening can damage threads or seals, while undertightening can leak. After installation, restore water slowly and check every connection.

What should I do if a connection leaks after installation?

Turn off the water supply, unplug the unit if it can be done safely, and inspect the connection, gasket orientation and threads. Reassemble only as directed. Stop and contact a plumber or TOTO support if the leak continues.

Why does my WASHLET move after installation?

The mounting plate may be loose, misaligned or installed with incorrect hardware. Remove the seat as instructed, verify the plate position and hardware, and retighten evenly without overtightening.

Can the WASHLET power cord be extended or modified?

Do not cut, splice or modify the power cord. If the factory cord does not safely reach, have a qualified electrician install an outlet in an approved location.

Can I install a WASHLET in a rental property?

Obtain the property owner’s approval before changing plumbing or electrical connections. Keep the original seat and parts, and ensure installation and later removal comply with the lease and local codes.

Can WASHLET be installed in an RV or mobile home?

Only if the water pressure, electrical supply, grounding, space and mounting conditions meet the product specifications. Movement, winterization and nonstandard plumbing may make an RV installation unsuitable; confirm with qualified professionals.

Can a U.S. WASHLET be used outside the United States?

Use the product only with the voltage, frequency, water conditions and certifications stated for its intended market. Plug adapters or transformers do not resolve all safety, warranty and code differences.

What should I check before first use?

Confirm the seat is secure, all water connections are dry, the shutoff valve is open, the plug is fully inserted and no cord or hose is pinched. Then follow the model’s initial setup and test procedure.

How do I remove WASHLET for cleaning or moving?

Turn off required functions and follow the manual’s release procedure. Some models use a side release button or lever. Do not pull against connected hoses or the power cord.

Where can I find installation help?

Use TOTO USA’s service and installation support resources or contact a qualified local plumber and, when electrical work is needed, a licensed electrician. Provide the exact toilet and WASHLET model numbers.

My newly installed WASHLET seat feels wobbly, and the bumpers underneath do not sit completely flat on the bowl.

When properly mounted on its bracket, a WASHLET may have approximately 1/2" of left to right movement, as designed. The WASHLET bumpers may appear to be different heights, and may not sit down on the toilet rim when a user is not seated. This is by design, and allows the seat sensor to be activated by the seated user.

TOILET, IN WALL TANK
For the wall-hung WASHLET+ toilets, our finished wall material might be thicker than 2 inches. Are there extension kits available for the carrier?

No, TOTO does not offer extension kits if the finished wall material exceeds 2 inches. The wall material must be kept under 2 inches for the carrier to be installed properly.

Can I get a longer inlet pipe or flange extension if my finished wall is too thick for my wall-mounted toilet?

No, TOTO does not offer extensions or longer inlet pipes for in-wall tank systems. The installation must adhere to the specified wall thickness requirements (typically under 2 inches of finished wall material). The in-wall tank carrier must be placed correctly within the framing to accommodate the standard pipe lengths provided.

My WASHLET+ paired with an in-wall tank toilet doesn’t have a standard wall plug. How does it get power?

D-shaped and Square bowl WASHLET+ models designed to pair with an in-wall tank system do not use a standard wall plug. Instead, the WASHLET has a specific electrical cable adaptor that connects directly into an electrical terminal box installed by an electrician.

I am installing a WASHLET+ on a TOTO in-wall tank. Do I need to buy a separate water connection kit?

Yes. When installing a WASHLET bidet seat on a TOTO in-wall carrier system, you must purchase the THU805 WASHLET Connection Kit separately. This provides the necessary shut-off valve and adaptor for the WASHLET water supply hose. The TOTO in-wall tank has an integrated water line to connect the shut off valve onto.

Can I add a WASHLET connection kit to an already installed in-wall tank system?

I understand this can be frustrating, but if the in-wall tank carrier (such as the WT172M) is already completely installed and enclosed behind the wall, you cannot easily add the internal WASHLET connection kit (THU468) without opening the wall for access. As an alternative, you may need a plumber to run a separate external water supply line for the WASHLET.

I am trying to replace the fill valve on my one-piece TOTO toilet, but it’s hard to reach the nut underneath. What should I do?

On some one-piece TOTO models with a skirted design, reaching the fill valve nut from underneath can be challenging. It may require specialized tools like a basin wrench, or temporarily loosening the toilet from the floor to gain better access to the back. We recommend consulting a professional plumber if it is difficult to reach.

Can I remove my current standard seat and install a WASHLET myself?

Yes, you can install it yourself, provided you have a dedicated grounded electrical outlet near the toilet and can connect the provided junction valve to your water supply line.

I’m trying to remove an old seat, but the metal bolts are rusted and won’t turn.

You may need to apply penetrating oil and wait, or use a nut-splitting tool. To avoid accidentally cracking the ceramic bowl by applying too much force, please consult a professional plumber if it remains stuck.

Should I seal the gap between the floor and the toilet base with silicone caulk?

In many US jurisdictions, local building codes require caulking the base of the toilet to the floor for sanitation and stability. However, it is common practice to leave a small gap at the very back uncaulked so that any potential under-floor leaks can be detected early. Please check with your local plumbing code.

3. Daily Use & Features
NEOREST
Does the "EWATER+" feature require refilling with detergent or chemicals?

No refills are necessary. EWATER+ is created automatically by electrolyzing the chloride ions naturally present in your tap water, so you do not need to add any special liquids.

After flushing, the toilet makes a whirring sound and sprays a mist on its own. Is it broken?

It is not broken. This is the sound of the EWATER+ automatic cleaning feature, which sprays mist into the bowl or onto the nozzle after use (or when idle for a certain period) to suppress dirt and bacteria.

How do I use the emergency battery box for power outages?

It is used to temporarily power the electronic flush during a power outage. You insert AA alkaline batteries into the box and connect it to the designated port on the main unit. (*Only for specific models - consult model user manual for details).

The ceramic surface (CEFIONTECT) in the bowl feels rough.

Over years of use, invisible mineral deposits like limescale or uric acid scale may have adhered to the surface. Carefully scrub it off using a neutral toilet bowl cleaner and a soft brush or sponge designed for non-stick cookware. For heavy build up, vinegar or CLR mineral remover may be used (use only as directed on product packaging).

Can I adjust the detection distance (sensitivity) of the auto open/close sensor?

Some newer models have adjustable sensitivity (see user manual). Generally, the sensor’s detection distance is fixed and cannot be adjusted. Please note, the bathroom layout, direct sunlight from windows, or wall colors might affect the sensor detection.

When should I use the "Light Flush" (Eco Flush) button?

The "Light Flush" is ideal when removing liquid waste only or during cleaning. Use the "Full" flush when any solids are involved.

My model has an instantaneous heated seat, but it sometimes feels chilly right when I sit down.

The instantaneous heated seat uses a sensor to detect a user and warms up rapidly. If the room temperature is extremely low, or if thick clothing delays detection, it may feel a bit cool for a split second. If preferred, turn the "Preheating" setting to "On".

Will it damage the unit if I accidentally force the auto lid closed or open it manually?

Occasional minor resistance will not cause immediate damage because a safety mechanism (clutch system) will slip. However, repeatedly forcing the lid can break the motor or gears, so please avoid doing so.

Why is the "EWATER+" indicator light on the main unit blinking (or turned off)?

A blinking light indicates that the internal component that generates the sanitized water (electrolytic cell) is nearing its replacement period. If it is completely off, check the remote control to ensure the feature hasn’t been set to "Off". Contact TOTO Tech Service to arrange service of your NEOREST unit.

Can I turn off the "beep" sound (operation tone) when pressing the remote control buttons?

While it varies by model, most remotes allow you to adjust the volume or "Mute" the operation tone through a hidden menu or system settings. See your user manual for remote settings instructions.

I want to temporarily stop the auto open/close and auto flush features while cleaning the toilet.

You can turn these features to "Off" using the remote control buttons, power off the NEOREST unit, or press the "Clean Mode" / "Pause" button (on equipped models) to prevent the lid from closing or the toilet from flushing while you are cleaning.

How do I turn off or adjust the nightlight on my NEOREST?

The nightlight settings can be adjusted using your remote control. Please refer to your specific model’s owner’s manual (usually under the ’Settings’ or ’Auto Functions’ section) to find the exact button combination to toggle the nightlight on, off, or set it to a timer.

Can I turn off the nightlight that illuminates the inside of the bowl at night?

Yes, you can turn it off by accessing the menu settings on your remote control and switching the "Nightlight" or "Soft Light" setting to "Off". See user manual for specific remote instructions.

Can I change the amount of time it takes for the auto lid to close after a user leaves?

Yes, you can adjust the delay time (e.g., 25 seconds, 90 seconds, etc.) for the lid to close after you leave via the remote control’s menu settings. See model user guide for steps.

WASHLET
Why does the WASHLET not spray when no one is seated?

Many models use a seat sensor that enables cleansing only when an occupant is detected. Sit fully on the seat and avoid covers or objects that interfere with the sensor. Sensor behavior varies by model.

How do I adjust the cleansing-water temperature?

Use the water-temperature control on the remote or side panel. Available levels and button sequences vary, so refer to the model’s quick guide or instruction manual.

How do I adjust spray pressure?

Start cleansing, then use the pressure controls to select a comfortable level. Begin at a lower setting for new users. The number of levels varies by model.

Can I change the wand position?

Models with position control allow the spray to move forward or backward. Use the position buttons during cleansing and refer to the manual for the available range.

What does oscillating cleansing do?

Oscillating cleansing moves the wand back and forth to cover a wider area. Availability and operation depend on the model.

What does pulsating cleansing do?

Pulsating cleansing alternates water pressure for a different cleansing sensation. Availability and operation depend on the model.

What is PREMIST?

On equipped models, PREMIST sprays the bowl surface with water before use to help waste wash away more easily. It is not a substitute for routine toilet cleaning.

What is EWATER+?

TOILET, IN WALL TANK
Where is the water shut-off valve located for an in-wall tank/wall hung toilet, and how do I close it?

For in-wall concealed tank systems, the shut-off valve is located inside the wall tank access opening: 1. Remove the flush push plate (actuator) from the wall to access the inside of the tank. 2. Look inside the opening to locate the small shut-off valve at the top of the tank (often with a blue/red knob) on the water supply line leading to the fill valve. 3. Turn the valve clockwise to shut off the water supply to the tank before performing maintenance.

Is it okay to use an aftermarket fabric toilet seat cover?

You can attach one, but the added thickness might prevent the seat from staying fully upright, or the extra weight might cause the soft-close feature to malfunction.

When I am not sitting, the bumpers under the seat do not touch the bowl; the seat looks like it’s floating.

Some seats are designed to sit slightly elevated (about 2-3mm) and only flex downward to rest fully on the bowl when weight is applied. If it touches the bowl when you sit, this is completely normal.

Can I use a child training seat on top of the standard seat?

Yes, you can use general training seats. However, depending on the shape, it might scratch the plastic surface of the TOTO seat. Ensure any rubber pads on the child seat are positioned correctly.

What happens if I accidentally use the wrong button/lever on a dual-flush toilet?

It will not damage the toilet. However, if you use the "Small (or Eco) Flush" when flushing toilet paper, there may not be enough water volume, which can cause the paper to clog the drain line. Always use the "Full Flush" when flushing paper and solid waste.

COMMERCIAL
How do I clean the internal water supply filter (piston) of the EFV?

Close the control stop (shut-off valve), unscrew the cap, and remove the piston/filter. Rinse it under water and use a toothbrush to remove any rust or pipe debris trapped in the mesh, then reinstall. Regular cleaning prevents low water pressure issues.

When cleaning a commercial restroom, can I spray down the EFV with a hose?

While EFVs are water-resistant, spraying them directly with a hose or pressure washer can force water into the casing, causing the electronic circuit board to short out. Only clean the exterior by wiping it with a damp, tightly wrung cloth.

What precautions should I take when cleaning or replacing the piston valve (or diaphragm) of the EFV?

Always close the control stop completely and press the manual override button to relieve any remaining pressure before removing the top cap. Disassembling the valve while pressurized is dangerous, as water can spray out violently.

Are there any precautions when reopening a restroom facility that has been closed for a long time?

Yes. If trapped air or rust in the pipes hits the flush valve directly, it can damage the delicate internal rubber seals or cause clogs. First, open a nearby sink faucet to fully drain out any rusty water and air before operating the flush valve.

How should I clean the metal body (chrome plating) of the EFV without scratching it?

Never use abrasive cleansers or metal scouring pads, as they will scratch and ruin the chrome plating. Wipe it down with a soft cloth and warm water mixed with a mild detergent, then dry completely with a clean cloth to preserve its finish.

Is it safe to spray commercial disinfecting sprays directly onto the electronic box containing the circuit board and battery?

No. Spraying directly can cause liquid to seep into the gaps, short-circuiting the electronics and causing a malfunction. Please spray the disinfectant onto a cloth first, or use a disinfecting wipe to clean the surface.

The flush volume from the EFV seems too low (or too high). Can I adjust it?

No. TOTO EFVs (electronic flush valves) are designed to deliver a precise, fixed volume of water per flush (e.g., 0.125 gpf or 0.5 gpf) depending on the model, and the volume cannot be adjusted. Double-check the model installed on your toilet or urinal. EFVs that begin with product SKUs "TET" are designed for use with toilets, while SKUs that begin with "TEU" are designed for urinals. Incorrect product installation may result in too much or too little water volume for the ceramic product. If the flow is weak, check the internal piston for debris and ensure the control stop is fully open.

Does the EcoPower (self-generating) automated faucet require backup battery replacement?

While EcoPower hydro-generates electricity from water flow, it contains an internal backup battery (or energy storage cell). If the faucet experiences extremely low usage or has been installed for 7 to 10 years, the backup cell will need replacement due to natural degradation.

Is it possible to restrict or adjust the volume of water coming out of the automated faucet?

The electronic run-time of automated faucets is fixed (10 second on demand, or 20 second continuous). To adjust the actual water pressure/flow rate, manually adjust the control stop (shut-off valve) located under the sink by closing it slightly.

Is it okay to refill the automatic soap dispenser tank with commercial, third-party liquid or foam soap?

Always use TOTO genuine specified soap. Pouring third-party soap with different viscosities, or adding foam soap into a liquid-type model, can clog the internal pump or prevent proper dispensing, leading to severe equipment failure.

4. Cleaning & Care
NEOREST
When is it time to replace the deodorizer cartridge?

If you notice lingering odors even after cleaning the deodorizing filter, it is time for a replacement of the deodorizer cartridge (charcoal filter). Depending on usage, it typically needs to be replaced every few years.

Are there any specific precautions for the NEOREST when I leave home for an extended period?

Consult the user manual for your specific model, and follow instructions in the sections "Long Periods of Disuse" and "Freeze Prevention" (if indicated). Generally speaking, the junction (shut off) valve should be closed, the water pressure discharged from the wand, and the unit powered off. In addition to draining the water from the unit, you should add a cup of water or a commercial evaporation retardant to the toilet bowl. This prevents the water seal from evaporating, which would allow sewer gases to enter the room.

Is there a feature to lift the NEOREST top unit to clean the gap between it and the bowl?

Yes, many NEOREST models feature the "Clean Lift" function. By pressing a button on the side of the unit or using the remote control, the top unit lifts up a few centimeters (automatically or manually) to allow easy cleaning of the gap.

A dark ring or black stains form easily inside the toilet bowl. What causes this?

This is caused by airborne mold or bacteria attaching to and multiplying on mineral deposits (iron, calcium, etc.) from the water. Clean regularly with a neutral detergent and ensure the EWATER+ mist feature is enabled.

How can I prevent the NEOREST bowl and pipes from freezing in cold climates?

Consult your user manual for model-specific instructions. Keep the bathroom warm or perform the "Water Draining" procedure according to the manual. For models equipped with a freeze-prevention flow mode (which automatically flushes a tiny amount of water periodically), turn that setting to "On".

How do I winterize a WASHLET in an unheated home?

Close the supply, drain the unit using the model-specific procedure and protect plumbing from freezing. If uncertain, have a qualified plumber winterize the installation.

I want to clean the nozzle. Is there a way to extend it manually?

Press the "Wand Cleaning" button on the remote control or main side panel (indicated by the symbol of a wand with water droplets). The nozzle will extend without spraying water. Wipe gently with a damp towel. Press the button again or press "Stop" to retract. For remote/side panel instructions specific to your unit, please consult the user manual.

What should I do to prevent freezing when leaving the house for a long time in winter?

Perform the "Water Draining" procedure on the main unit. Draining water from the supply connections and inside the unit prevents components from cracking due to freezing. Follow the steps in the manual (see model user manual, under Freeze Damage Prevention).

Are there any cleaning agents that should not be used on the WASHLET?

Do not use acidic or corrosive cleaners, thinners, benzine, or abrasive cleaners on WASHLET. These can cause the plastic to crack or discolor, and corrosion to electrical components.

Can I remove the toilet lid to wash it or clean the gaps?

Yes, the toilet lid can be removed without any tools. Depending on the model, you can either gently widen one of the hinges outwards or release a specific lock lever to pull it upward. Clean area with a damp towel. Please refer to your manual as instructions vary by model.

How should I clean the sensor windows (motion sensor, remote receiver, etc.)?

Gently wipe the remote control receiver and sensor windows with a soft, dry cloth. For tougher stains, use a cloth dampened with a diluted neutral detergent, then wipe dry with a clean cloth. Avoid harsh cloths or chemical wipes, as they can cause scratches.

Are there any regular maintenance tasks I should do to keep my WASHLET working properly?

Yes, basic maintenance includes wiping the unit down with a damp towel and neutral cleaner, manually wiping the wand, removing the WASHLET from the mounting bracket to clean underneath, and periodically cleaning the water filter and deodorizer filter located on the unit. If you plan to be away for an extended period, it’s also a good idea to drain the water from the unit using the wand cleaning button to prevent mineral buildup, and then unplug it.

Is there a feature to lift/remove the WASHLET unit to clean the gap between it and the bowl?

Yes. Power off the WASHLET product and unplug. Find the Main Unit Removal Button on the right hand side of the unit, and press inwards while sliding the unit forward a few inches, to disengage from the mounting plate. Tilt the unit upwards and clean the toilet bowl rim and mounting plate area with a damp cloth. Reinstall the unit by centering the WASHLET on the toilet bowl, and sliding straight back until it clicks securely back into the mounting plate.

How do I open the deodorizing filter door on the side of my WASHLET? It seems stuck.

The deodorizing filter door on the side of the WASHLET opens similarly to a battery door on a TV remote. Please follow these steps: 1. Locate the middle tab on the filter door. 2. Gently lift up on the middle tab to open it. No special tools are needed. 3. If it is difficult to reach or feels stuck, it may be easier to remove the WASHLET seat from the toilet bowl first to get a better grip.

TOILET, IN WALL TANK
The toilet seat has yellowed. Can I use bleach to clean it?

Since the seat is made of plastic, using chlorine bleach or strongly acidic/alkaline cleaners will cause discoloration or cracking. Please use a neutral toilet cleaner.

Can I use alcohol sprays or disinfecting wipes to clean the seat?

Cleaners containing alcohol can degrade the plastic over time, leading to micro-cracks. We recommend wiping with a damp cloth or using neutral, non-alcohol toilet wipes.

Black metallic-looking lines or scratches have appeared on the ceramic surface.

These are called "metal marks," which occur when metal cleaning tools, rings, or belt buckles rub hard against the ceramic, leaving metal powder behind. They can be gently rubbed off using a ceramic polishing pad or a commercial mild abrasive cleaner.

What kind of cleaning agents can be used on the toilet bowl?

For ceramic bowls, TOTO recommends the use of non-corrosive, non-abrasive gel-based toilet cleaners, as well as dish soap or cleaning vinegar. Do not leave chemical cleaners sitting on the ceramic for extended periods as they can damage fittings; rinse thoroughly after cleaning.

The toilet bowl is dirty. Can I pour boiling hot water into it to sanitize and clean it?

Never pour boiling water into a ceramic toilet. Ceramic is highly sensitive to thermal shock. Pouring hot water can cause sudden uneven expansion, causing the bowl to crack instantly or split in half, which is extremely dangerous. Use cold or lukewarm water (below 104°F/40°C).

Can I use bleach or harsh chemicals to clean the inside of my WASHLET or the toilet tank?

No. We strongly advise against using bleach, descaling agents, or harsh chemical cleaners inside the WASHLET or toilet tank. These chemicals will damage the internal rubber seals, flappers, valves, and mechanical components. Use a mild soap or vinegar solution for external cleaning only.

FAUCETS
How do I prevent my faucets and pipes from freezing during extreme winter weather?

During freezing nights, open the faucet slightly to allow a thin, continuous stream of water (about the thickness of a pencil lead) to run. Make sure the lever is set to the mixed (middle) position so that "both hot and cold water" lines flow.

The chrome surface of the faucet has become cloudy and white. How do I clean it?

This is limescale caused by dried mineral deposits from the tap water. Spray a diluted citric acid (or vinegar) solution, let it sit for a few minutes, then gently scrub with a soft sponge. Never use harsh scouring pads or abrasive cleaners, as they will scratch the chrome finish.

COMMERCIAL
There are stubborn white spots on the chrome surface of the flush valve.

These are mineral deposits (limescale) from hard water. Wipe them gently with a soft cloth dampened with a neutral cleaner or diluted citric acid. Avoid using strong acidic cleaners or abrasives, as they can peel off the chrome plating.

When cleaning a public restroom, can I spray down the automated faucet sensors and controllers with water?

Although the faucet body and under-counter controller boxes are water-resistant, spraying them directly with a pressure washer or hose can force water past the seals, short-circuiting the electronics. Please use a damp cloth to wipe them down instead.

The soap dispenser has become clogged and soap doesn’t flow easily. How do I clean the tank and lines?

Empty all the remaining soap from the tank, fill it with warm water (approx. 104°F/40°C), and activate the dispenser several times (using the manual flush switch or sensor). This will flush out and dissolve any soap residue hardened inside the supply tubes.

5. Troubleshooting
NEOREST
The NEOREST toilet flush is weak, and toilet paper is left behind.

Because of its tankless (or hybrid) design, your home’s water pressure might be affecting the flush. First, ensure the junction (shut-off) valve is fully open, and test the function using the remote. If flush is still weak, turn the junction valve, and consult the user manual on how to clean the water supply filter to ensure it is not clogged with debris. If issue persists, contact TOTO Technical Service to arrange repair. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

Water keeps running continuously into the bowl after flushing and won’t stop.

If issue originated after using the manual flush procedure due to electrical outage, or during installation process, ensure the manual water supply cord or knob has been disengaged. If issue began after regular use, debris might be caught in the internal water supply valve, or a component may have degraded. Stop using the toilet immediately, close the junction (shut-off) valve, and contact TOTO Technical Service to arrange repair. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

The LCD screen on the remote control is completely blank.

The batteries are likely dead. Remove the back cover of the remote control and replace all the batteries with new alkaline ones. If issue does not resolve, check inside the battery housing for corrosion or terminal damage. Damaged remotes may require replacement.

The remote’s "Flush" button doesn’t work (but the washing/drying features do).

- Inspect the remote control for any damage or debris around the button that may prevent it from fully clicking. - Test the autoflush functions by sitting on the seat for 20+ seconds and standing up. - If flush does not trigger, internal components may be damaged and require service. Contact TOTO Technical Service to arrange service. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

Rusty water came out of the tap after plumbing work or a water outage. Will this affect the NEOREST?

Yes. Rust can clog the water filter or internal valves, causing the toilet to stop flushing or run continuously. Always run water from another faucet (like the sink) until it is completely clear before allowing water into the NEOREST.

The sound of the toilet flushing suddenly became much louder.

The water supply pressure might be too high, or air may be trapped in the pipes (water hammer effect). Try adjusting the flow by slightly closing the shut-off valve, or have the plumbing inspected.

All the green LED lights (Power, Seat, Water, Energy Saver) on my NEOREST unit are flashing simultaneously. How do I resolve this error?

Simultaneous flashing of all LED indicator lights signals an internal system error or safety lockout: 1. Perform a soft system reset: Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet for 3 minutes, then plug it back in. 2. Verify that the main water shut-off valve is fully open, as a sudden lack of water pressure can trigger error states. If the lights continue to flash after resetting, the unit requires authorized repair. Contact TOTO Tech Support with your model number, serial number, and a short video clip of the flashing lights to initiate service.

My NEOREST remote is lighting up, but the toilet is completely unresponsive. Is it the remote or the toilet?

First, ensure the unit is powered on, indicated by a solid green Power light on the WASHLET unit. If lights are off, locate the power button on the remote (circle with a vertical line symbol) and press and hold until the unit beeps, and the power light turns on. Check that the batteries in the remote are new. If the remote lights up when buttons are pressed but the toilet does not respond, the remote may have lost connection or the remote receiver may have failed. If there is still no response, contact Tech Support for further troubleshooting and possible repair.

The NEOREST seat or lid slams shut with a loud noise.

The mechanism that slows down the closing of the seat/lid (soft-close hinge) may be worn out or damaged. The component or the entire seat/lid assembly needs to be replaced. The WASHLET is loose and wobbles. Can I retighten it?

Make sure the main unit is securely slid onto the base plate until it clicks. If the mounting hardware on the base plate itself is loose, you will need to remove the main unit and retighten the hardware to tighten to the toilet bowl. A 1/2" left to right movement while installed is normal and as designed.

The washing/bidet spray does not stop even after standing up from the toilet seat.

Check if a toilet seat cover or a child’s training seat is covering the seat sensor. It may cause the sensor to incorrectly detect that someone is still sitting. If issue persists, contact TOTO Technical Support for additional assistance. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

Water is dripping from around the nozzle when the WASHLET is not in use.

For tank-type models, it is normal for excess water to drain from the nozzle area due to thermal expansion when water in the tank heats up. Many models will purge a small amount of water from the wand just before use. The wand self-clean function also rinses the wand before and after use. If it leaks heavily and constantly, close the shut-off valve and contact TOTO Technical Service to request repair. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

What action should I take if the bidet spray won’t stop running?

First, select the "Stop" button on the side panel controller or remote (indicated by a square symbol.) Water spray may also be stopped by the user raising themselves off the seat sensor briefly. If this does not stop the spray, unplug the power cord from the outlet.

A "hissing" or spraying sound of water occurs when I approach the toilet bowl. Is this abnormal?

This is normal. The "Premist" feature automatically sprays a mist of water inside the toilet bowl before use to prevent waste from sticking to the ceramic surface.

Why does the unit occasionally make a motorized whirring sound even when not in use?

This is the sound of the automatic self-cleaning feature (EWATER+ or self-cleaning wand) operating, or the heater cycling to keep the seat warm. It is not a malfunction.

The power turned off when I pressed the "TEST" button. It won’t turn back on even when I press the "RESET" button.

The unit may have detected a ground fault (electrical leak) internally, or the plug itself (or the GFCI outlet) could be faulty. For your safety, stop using the unit immediately, close the shut-off valve, and contact TOTO Technical Service for troubleshooting. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

When I place a child training seat on top, the WASHLET malfunctions or does not work at all.

Depending on the shape of the training seat, it may constantly block the seat sensor, or conversely, prevent the sensor from detecting a user when someone is seated. Remove the training seat or operate the unit manually. Additionally, children may not be heavy enough to activate a WASHLET seat sensor.

I just installed my WASHLET and the wand will not spray water when I press the button. What should I check?

Please follow these troubleshooting steps for new installations: 1. Verify the power cord is securely plugged in and the main Power LED light on the seat is lit. 2. Ensure the main water supply valve is opened completely. 3. Note that WASHLETs feature a built-in seat sensor for safety; water will not spray unless a person is seated. You can test functionality by sitting on the toilet or pressing the seat sensor (rear right side of seat) for A, C, and K series models, or covering the circular sticker with a bare hand for S series models, and then pressing the wash button.

My WASHLET is emitting a high-pitched whistling noise from inside the seat. Can I flush the internal lines with vinegar to clear mineral deposits?

No, never pour vinegar, descaling agents, or chemical solutions directly into the internal water inlet lines of the WASHLET. Doing so will damage internal rubber seals, valves, and solenoids. While a mild vinegar solution can be used externally to wipe the wand exterior, internal backflow check valves cannot be DIY-serviced. If the whistling sound originates from the internal seat mechanics, contact TOTO Tech Support to arrange factory repair service.

My WASHLET wand comes out, but the water spray is very weak or just dribbles. How can I resolve this?

A weak spray is usually caused by mineral buildup or a clogged filter. 1. Turn off the water supply 2. Locate the water filter (see WASHLET user manual for model-specific location) 3. Remove the filter and clean it with a small brush and running water. 4. Reinstall the filter and test the spray. If the problem persists, 1. Extend the WASHLET wand using the Wand Cleaning function 2. Unplug the WASHLET to leave the wand extended 3. Clean the wand using a brush and vinegar solution 4. If mineral build up is seen, fill a plastic bag with vinegar and attach to wand using a rubber band. Let soak for 30 minutes and clean with a brush. 5. Connect the WASHLET to power and test the spray If the problem persists, please contact Tech Support for factory repair.

The Auto Open/Close lid on my WASHLET or NEOREST is not working or is taking too long to close.

Please verify your settings first: 1. Check the remote control to ensure the Auto Open/Close feature is turned ON. 2. Make sure the sensor on the unit is not blocked or dirty. 3. Note that the Auto Close function operates on a timer after you walk away. If it seems slow, you can adjust the timer settings using the remote control menu. Check your model user guide for remote setting directions.

I just sat down on my WASHLET and water started spraying into the bowl before I pressed any buttons. Is this normal?

Yes, this is completely normal. What you are experiencing is the "Pre-Mist" function. When the seat sensor detects someone sitting down, it automatically sprays a fine mist of water onto the bowl surface to help prevent waste from sticking. Some models may also discharge a small amount of water from the wand into the toilet bowl, to discharge the water sitting in the wand while not in use.

My WASHLET remote control does not seem to be synced or communicating with the seat. How do I fix this?

First, ensure the WASHLET is powered on, indicated by a solid green power LED on the main unit. Check for environmental factors that might block the remote signal from reaching the receiver on the main unit (see user manual for location), such as shelves, cosmetic bags, tissue boxes, etc. Test remote connectivity by holding in other locations (left vs right side of unit). Dark painted walls may limit the remote range by absorbing, rather than bouncing the remote signal. If issue persists, contact TOTO Technical Support for additional assistance. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

The Power light on my WASHLET is flashing green, and none of the functions are working. What should I do?

A flashing green power light usually indicates that the WASHLET is not fully locked into the mounting base plate. Press the release button on the right side of the unit, slide the seat slightly forward, and then push it firmly back until you hear a loud click. This ensures the connection is secure and should resolve the flashing light.

Water is constantly leaking from my WASHLET bidet nozzle. Can I fix this myself?

A continuous leak directly from the bidet wand nozzle typically indicates an internal valve failure within the WASHLET. This cannot be serviced at home. Please contact TOTO Tech Support to arrange a return repair service to have the internal mechanics replaced.

All the functions on my WASHLET stopped working, but the green Power light is flashing. What does a flashing green light mean?

A flashing green power light indicates that the WASHLET unit is not securely locked into its mounting base plate. Press the release button on the side of the WASHLET, slide the seat slightly forward, and then push it firmly back toward the tank until you hear it click and lock into place. If issue persists, contact TOTO Tech Service for possible repair.

My WASHLET remote seems unresponsive. Can I perform a hard reset using the remote control?

Inspect remote for any damage caused by dropping or submerging in water. Inspect the remote battery area for signs of rust or battery corrosion. Replace old batteries with new ones. If remote does not light up when buttons are selected, it may be damaged and require replacement.

My WASHLET’s wand is acting intermittently. It works for the cleaning cycle but not when I press the spray button. What should I do?

If your remote lights up, and the dryer may be activated, but the wand doesn’t spray, the unit may need a hard reset, due to a safety error. Hard resets require pressing remote buttons in a specific order, which varies by WASHLET model. If the issue persists, contact Tech Support with your model number for further troubleshooting.

The automatic open/close lid feature on my WASHLET or NEOREST is not working. How can I fix it?

If WASHLET is newly installed, verify model number and user guide or spec sheet, to ensure your model has automatic open/close capability. Then, ensure the feature is not accidentally turned off on your remote control (check user manual to change the settings for Auto Open/Close). Also, check if the sensor area on the unit is clean and unobstructed. If issue persists, contact TOTO Tech Service for further troubleshooting.

My WASHLET wand comes out, but it doesn’t spray any water. What should I check?

If the wand extends but does not spray, first check if the water supply valve on the wall is fully open. Then, ensure the mesh water filter on the side of the WASHLET is clean and not clogged with debris.

Only some buttons on my WASHLET/NEOREST remote control are working (e.g., front bidet buttons do not work). What should I do?

Remote issues may be best troubleshot by a TOTO Technical Support agent, to determine if the unit requires a reset or service. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

I just installed my new WASHLET, but the wand stays extended, makes a grinding noise, and sprays water under the flap. What should I do?

If the wand is stuck, grinding, and spraying improperly right out of the box, it was likely damaged during shipping. Please return the unit to your retailer for a replacement.

The lights on my WASHLET remote are not turning on, and the unit doesn’t beep when I press buttons.

If your WASHLET remote does not light up at all, first replace the batteries in the remote, and inspect the battery box for any damage or corrosion. Then, ensure the WASHLET main unit is plugged in and has power. Check the Power LED light on the main unit. If it is not showing solid green, find the power button on the remote, and press and hold for 5-10 seconds, listening for a beep and watching for the power light to turn on.

The WASHLET seat or lid slams shut with a loud noise.

The mechanism that slows down the closing of the seat/lid (soft-close hinge) may be worn out or damaged. The component or the entire seat/lid assembly needs to be replaced. TOILET, IN WALL TANK
The push plate (actuator) on my in-wall toilet is sticking or not flushing properly. How do I fix this?

If the push plate on your in-wall system is sticking: 1. Carefully unclip and remove the push plate cover from the wall. 2. Inspect the actuator rods behind the plate to ensure they are properly aligned, not bent, and set to the correct length. 3. Check for any dust or debris buildup around the buttons. 4. Ensure the push button mounting frame is not over-tightened against the wall, which can bind the buttons. If the issue persists, contact TOTO Tech Support for internal flush valve maintenance guidance.

My wall-hung toilet bowl feels loose or wiggles slightly against the wall. How can I secure it?

A loose wall-hung bowl may be caused by several factors: 1. The mounting hardware securing the ceramic bowl to the in-wall carrier frame needs tightening - Locate the mounting access holes on the side or underside of the ceramic bowl. - Insert the appropriate size Allen wrench or socket tool into the access holes to tighten the mounting bolts. - Tighten securely so the bowl rests firmly flush against the wall 2. The metal rods or mounting hardware may have been incorrectly adjusted before bowl installation. Remove bowl and check installation guide for exact measurements 3. Incorrect wall framing or in-wall carrier installation may result in wall movement or flexing when the weight of a user is on the bowl. If issue persists, contact TOTO Technical Support for further troubleshooting. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

Water keeps running continuously into the bowl of my in-wall tank/wall hung toilet. What causes this and how can it be fixed?

A continuously running in-wall toilet is usually caused by a dirty/worn flush valve seal or a stuck fill valve: 1. Remove the push plate to access the internal components. 2. Turn off the internal water shut-off valve. 3. Remove the central flush valve assembly and inspect the rubber seal at the bottom for debris, mineral buildup, or warping. 4. Clean the seal and valve seat thoroughly. If the rubber seal is deformed or blistered, replace the flush valve seal gasket. For further assistance, contact TOTO Technical Support for troubleshooting.

My wall-mounted toilet is constantly running. How do I access the internal parts of my in-wall tank to check the valves?

For in-wall tanks, the access panel is located directly behind the push plate on the wall. Carefully remove the push plate cover to access the internal tank components, such as the fill valve and flush valve, for maintenance or replacement. For further assistance, contact TOTO Technical Support for assistance.

My wall-hung toilet is constantly trickling water into the bowl. How can I test what is causing the leak?

First, remove the push plate to access the internal tank. Turn off the water supply valve located inside the wall. If the water stops trickling into the bowl within a few seconds, the fill valve is likely overfilling the tank and needs to be replaced. If the water continues to leak into the bowl while the supply is off, the flush valve seal is likely the issue. For further assistance, contact TOTO Technical Support for assistance. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

My in-wall tank (WT173M / WT172M) keeps running after I flush because the auto flush cable or plunger gets stuck. How can I fix this?

If your flush mechanism is sticking and keeping the tank running, the push rods behind the push plate may need adjustment or replacement. First, remove the push plate and ensure the flush rods are properly seated and not bound. If they seem to be rubbing or stuck, ensure they are clicked into place by twisting clockwise, until a click is heard. Contact TOTO Tech Service for further troubleshooting.

The push button on my in-wall toilet faceplate (like the YT990) is sticking or sitting unevenly. How can I fix this?

If the push button on your in-wall toilet faceplate is sticking, the push rods behind the plate may need adjustment. Check the rods that connect the button to the internal mechanism. If they are uneven, it can cause the button to bind or stick. Adjust the rods so they are completely flush and even.

The toilet seat is loose and shifts from side to side.

The mounting bolts or nuts securing the seat to the bowl (underneath or on top) may be loose. Please refer to the manual and firmly retighten the nuts. You may also want to inspect the seat mounting holes for damage to the attachment area.

The soft-close toilet seat suddenly slams shut with a loud noise.

The soft-close components that control the slow-closing action have likely reached the end of their lifespan. The soft close hinge, or the entire seat assembly, must be replaced.

The toilet seat has a crack. Is it safe to tape it and keep using it?

No, plastic seats with cracks should not be repaired. Please stop using it immediately and replace the seat for safety. If the seat is part of a WASHLET or NEOREST product, please call into TOTO Technical Service to arrange service for your unit. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

No water flushes from the tank when I turn the trip lever. What is the cause?

The chain or cable connecting the trip lever to the flush valve inside the tank might be disconnected or broken. Open the tank lid and check the condition of the chain.

I constantly hear a "hissing" sound of running water from inside the tank.

The fill valve or diaphragm that controls the water level inside the tank may have degraded over time. Some TOTO fill valves may be serviced to replace the inner diaphragm to prevent operational sounds. - See video on TOTO USA YouTube here: https://youtu.be/8k7OyAtLj3U?si=LBDfrxLC3N5fAC8a If sound is continuous/persistent, perform a "Leak Test" to determine if a tank component like the flush valve or fill valve requires replacement.

A lot of water droplets are forming on the outside of the tank (sweating). Is this abnormal?

This is condensation, which occurs when the bathroom is hot and humid while the water inside the tank is very cold. It is not a malfunction, but to prevent future issues, wipe it off regularly or improve room ventilation/dehumidification.

I accidentally dropped and flushed a solid object like keys or a smartphone.

Solid objects get caught in the trapway and cause severe clogs. Do not use a plunger, as it will push the object further in. Contact a professional plumber immediately to retrieve it.

Water is slowly seeping out from the gap between the toilet base and the floor.

Seepage or moisture under the bowl may be caused by a poor seal between the toilet and the drain flange. - Remove the toilet from the floor. - Inspect the drain flange. For proper seal, the flange should sit higher than the finished floor. If it is recessed below floor level, consult a plumber about raising it higher with a drain flange extender. - Install a new wax ring. TOTO recommends the use of a plain wax toilet ring, without inner plastic ring, for best seal. - Inspect the toilet for any visible damage or cracks. - Reinstall toilet onto flange, ensuring unit is bolted firmly and sits evenly on the floor.

My water bill suddenly spiked. Is there a way to check if my toilet is leaking?

Look closely at the water surface in the bowl to see if there are any ripples. Also, put a few drops of food coloring into the tank. Wait a while without flushing; if color appears in the bowl water, water is leaking from the tank.

The trip lever gets stuck when turned to "Flush" and does not snap back.

The lever shaft might be rusted/corroded, or the internal lift chain or flapper might be catching on another component. Inspect the inside of the tank to clear any obstructions, or lubricate (or replace) the trip lever.

The toilet tank lid (tank cover) is cracked. Can I purchase just the lid?

Yes, if you can identify the tank model number (usually stamped or engraved on the inside back or side of the tank), you can purchase just the lid as a replacement part. For safety, remove the cracked lid immediately.

Water is slowly seeping out from the gap between the tank and the bowl.

If the issue occurs soon after installation, inspect the tank to bowl mounting hardware and washers, and compare to the installation instructions for your model. Leakage may occur from mounting holes if the rubber and metal washers are not installed in the correct order to create a tight seal within the toilet tank. Likewise, the tank to bowl gasket (foam or rubber) may have been incorrectly installed or pinched during installation. To find location of leakage: - Turn off the water, and uninstall the tank from the bowl. Prop upright, and fill the tank with water to check for leaks. A few drops of food dye may help to identify the area of leakage. - Check for any indication of cracks in the tank, which can be caused by overtightening of the hardware. - It is possible for the rubber washers and foam gaskets to degrade over time, due to age or exposure to chemicals in the tank. They may need to be replaced.

The toilet bowl is not firmly fixed to the floor; it wobbles when I sit on it.

The nuts on the bolts securing the toilet to the floor (closet bolts) may be loose, or the floor might not be level. Tighten the nuts gently, insert plastic toilet shims into the gaps to eliminate the wobble, and secure the base with caulk.

Is it abnormal to hear a "gurgling" sound when flushing the toilet?

This is a sign that your drain line or the house vent pipe (vent stack) is starting to clog. Because air cannot escape smoothly during a flush, air is sucked through the toilet bowl trap, making a noise.

After flushing, the water level rises high for a moment, then drains very slowly over time.

This indicates a partial clog in the trapway or drain pipe. Use a plunger immediately to clear the obstruction, or consult a plumber to address any clogs in the building plumbing system.

Water is dripping from the connection between the water supply line and the shut-off valve.

This may be caused by a degraded washer inside the connection, a loose nut, or a cross threaded hose connection. First, close the shut-off valve and slightly tighten the nut with a wrench. If the leak persists, we recommend replacing the entire supply line (as most have integrated washers).

I see many tiny, barely visible hairline lines on the ceramic surface. Is it a crack?

These could be "crazing," which are tiny fractures only in the surface glaze caused by thermal expansion differences, or actual "cracks" in the ceramic structural body. If the lines run all the way to the backside or if water is seeping through, it is a structural crack and requires immediate replacement.

When I touched the black rubber flapper or float inside the tank, it left a heavy black residue on my hands.

This is "hydrolysis," a condition where rubber components break down and dissolve over time after long-term submersion in water. While not abnormal, it means the part has reached the end of its lifespan and should be replaced with a new flapper before leaks occur.

My TOTO toilet is running constantly or intermittently. How can I tell if I need to replace the fill valve or the flush valve/flapper?

You can perform a simple "Leak Test" to isolate the issue: 1. Flush the toilet normally and let the tank fill completely. 2. Shut off the water supply valve behind the toilet. 3. Make a pencil mark at the water level inside the tank. 4. Wait 2 to 4 hours without using the toilet. 5. Check the water level. If the water has dropped to the level of the flapper or flush tower, the flush valve/flapper is leaking and needs replacement. If the water level remains the same but runs when the water is turned back on, the fill valve needs replacement.

I hear a loud thumping or hammering sound coming from the wall immediately after the toilet finishes filling. What is causing this?

This sound is known as ’water hammer.’ It occurs when the toilet’s fill valve shuts off abruptly against high household water pressure. To resolve this, you can try slightly closing the water supply valve to reduce the flow rate, or consult a plumber to install a water hammer arrestor on your plumbing line.

My toilet is not filling properly or seems to be slowly losing water. How can I tell which part needs replacing?

You can perform a simple test to determine if the issue is with the flush valve (flapper) or the fill valve: 1. Flush the toilet and let it refill to its normal level. 2. Mark the water level inside the tank. 3. Turn off the water supply valve and wait 4 to 6 hours. 4. Check the water level. If it has dropped significantly, the flush valve (flapper) likely needs to be replaced. If the water level has barely moved, the fill valve may be the issue.

FAUCETS
Water keeps dripping from the spout even after I completely close the lever handle.

This is usually caused by a worn, degraded, or debris-clogged valve cartridge. Please replace the valve cartridge with a new one. Be sure to close the shut-off valves before starting the work.

Water is slowly seeping out from the base of the lever handle (the gap around the moving part).

The O-rings on the cartridge may have degraded, or the cartridge retaining nut might be loose. Tighten the nut or replace the cartridge (or the O-rings).

The lever handle suddenly feels stiff and heavy, and it doesn’t move smoothly.

The lubricating grease inside the cartridge has worn away, or debris is caught inside. Replace the valve cartridge as soon as possible.

Water is dripping from the connection point to the supply valve under the sink.

This is caused by a loose nut or a degraded internal gasket/washer. Close the shut-off valve first, then use a wrench to snug up the nut. If the leak continues, replace the flexible supply hose line.

Even when I turn the shower handle/lever all the way to the hot side, I only get lukewarm water (or cold water).

Your water heater’s temperature setting might be too low, the internal thermostatic cartridge may be faulty, or the hot/cold water pressures might be unbalanced. Try raising the water heater temperature slightly above the faucet’s desired output. If issue persists, contact TOTO Technical Service for additional troubleshooting. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

A loud "banging" or "whistling" sound echoes from the walls/pipes when turning the water on or off.

This is a "water hammer" effect caused by abrupt changes in water velocity. Try operating the lever more slowly, or slightly close the shut-off valves under the sink to regulate the flow rate (faucet). If issue persists, install a water hammer arrestor.

COMMERCIAL
On a flushometer-type toilet (tankless commercial type), the water keeps running continuously and won’t stop.

Continuously running flush valves may be caused by several factors. After turning off the water shut off valve, check the following: - Is the manual push button stuck in the pressed in position, and cannot pop back out? (Exposed flush valves only) If so, remove the lower cover and unstick or replace the part - Remove the valve cap (brass or plastic) and remove the piston assembly. Inspect the piston and the inside of the valve for debris or damage - Remove the metal portion of the solenoid from the plastic base. Inspect the plunger on the underside of the metal portion, ensuring it is not wedged or stuck. Replace if plunger does not slide smoothly

The sensor on the Electronic Flush Valve (EFV) does not detect users, and the urinal won’t flush. Why?

Inspect the sensor window for build up or damage. Gently wipe the sensor window with a soft cloth. Check the installation height of the sensor window against the installation manual. Recalibrate the flush valve sensor by using the following steps: - Unplug the sensor and back up battery wire harnesses - Wait 5-7 minutes - Plug the wire harnesses back in to begin calibration. Ensure your hand or body are not covering the sensor window. Place the valve cover (exposed valves) or wall plate (concealed valves) back into place without adding security screws. - Exit the area and allow the sensor to calibrate for 5-7 minutes. During this time, a red light will blink once every 4 seconds - When the light stops blinking, calibration is complete - Test function as normal by standing in front of the sensor for longer than 20 seconds, and then exiting the area (dark clothing that absorbs light can sometimes make it harder for the sensor to detect a user) If issue persists, contact TOTO Technical Service for additional assistance. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

The EFV flushes on its own when no one is there (Ghost Flushing).

The sensor might be detecting reflections from mirrors or stainless steel opposite the urinal, or direct sunlight might be hitting the sensor. Alternatively, it could be the "Maintenance Flush" feature, which automatically flushes every 24 hours (toilets) or once every 12 hours (urinals) of non-use to prevent the trap from drying out and maintain the charge from the EcoPower generator.

Water is running continuously from the urinal EFV and will not stop.

Continuously running flush valves may be caused by several factors. After turning off the water shut off valve, check the following: - Is the manual push button stuck in the pressed in position, and cannot pop back out? I thought the TOTO EcoPower EFV does not need batteries, but the light is blinking.

EcoPower valves are self-generating using the flow of water, but they do contain a backup battery cell. If the urinal experiences very low usage for extended periods, or if the battery reaches the end of its lifespan (approx. 7-10 years), the backup battery will need to be replaced.

The sensor window on the EFV is glowing/flashing red continuously, and it won’t flush.

This indicates a circuit board error, a failed sensor, or a completely dead battery. Try resetting the unit by disconnecting the power (or battery) briefly. If it continues, follow the manual to replace the faulty component (e.g., sensor unit).

The sensor on the commercial electronic flush valve (EFV) for the toilet does not respond, and it won’t flush.

Check if the sensor window is dirty and wipe it with a soft cloth. Additionally, if a user stands in front of the toilet for too short a time (only a few seconds), the system will not recognize it as a valid use and will not automatically flush. Installation error or maintenance may lead to a poorly-calibrated sensor. Follow the steps below to recalibrate the sensor distance: - Unplug the sensor and back up battery wire harnesses - Wait 5-7 minutes - Plug the wire harnesses back in to begin calibration. Ensure your hand or body are not covering the sensor window. Water is running continuously and heavily from the toilet EFV and won’t stop. What is the emergency action?

Remove the cap from the "Control Stop" (shut-off valve) located next to the valve body, use a flathead screwdriver to turn it clockwise until it stops to completely shut off the water supply (exposed valves). For concealed EFVs (inside the wall), remove the sensor plate and find the valve handle to turn off. Then, inspect and replace the internal parts. If issue persists, contact TOTO Technical Service for additional assistance.

No water flushes even when I press the manual override button on the EFV.

- Ensure that the water supply to the valve is opened fully. - The internal mechanism of the button may be worn out, or the piston/diaphragm inside the valve body might be stuck. - Shut the control stop, disassemble the valve, and inspect the push button and internal components. Water is leaking from the gaps in the tube (vacuum breaker) located below the flush valve body.

The rubber gaskets inside the vacuum breaker (a safety valve that prevents backflow of sewer water) may have degraded over time. Since leaking water here can ruin floors, replace it immediately with a vacuum breaker repair kit.

When the flush valve activates, a loud "banging" shock noise echoes from the pipes.

This is a "water hammer" effect, caused by the high-velocity water flow stopping abruptly, creating high pressure in the pipes. Slightly close the control stop to reduce the flow rate, or install a water hammer arrestor in the piping.

The red LED on the sensor window of the EcoPower (self-generating) toilet EFV is blinking.

This indicates that the backup battery voltage is low. Although EcoPower self-generates electricity from water flow, the backup battery will need replacement if the toilet hasn’t been used for a long time or after several years (approx. 7–10 years) of service.

The flush volume seems lower than before. Can I adjust the amount of water?

No. EFVs have a fixed flush volume per model (e.g., 1.28 gpf or 1.6 gpf) and cannot be adjusted electronically. If the volume decreases, check how far the control stop is open, and clean any rust or debris from the internal water supply filter/piston.

The toilet EFV suddenly flushes on its own when no one is around (Ghost Flushing).

The sensor may be falsely detecting reflections from a stall door, clothes hanging on a hook directly opposite, or a mirror. Adjust the sensor’s detection range (sensitivity) to a shorter distance using the remote control or settings switch. Alternatively, it could be the "Maintenance Flush" feature, which automatically flushes every 24 hours (toilets) or once every 12 hours (urinals) of non-use to prevent the trap from drying out and maintain the charge from the EcoPower generator.

I see a faint line that looks like a scratch on the sensor window of my newly installed EFV. Is it defective?

It is highly likely not a scratch, but a "weld line" formed during the plastic molding process. It does not affect the sensor’s detection or water resistance. However, if you experience actual operational issues, please contact our support team.

My electronic flush valve toilet keeps running continuously, even after replacing the piston and solenoid valve. What should I do?

Please try the following troubleshooting steps: 1. Check the water pressure: Ensure the water pressure coming into the flush valve is not too high, which can force the solenoid open. 2. Inspect the solenoid: The solenoid might be stuck in the open position. Carefully open it and gently reset the internal components.

Water is seeping around the electronic control boxes underneath the lavatory counter.

There may be a water leak from the faucet supply lines or the soap dispenser connection joints. Because of the risk of electrical shock or short circuits, immediately close the main shut-off valves, unplug the power cord, and then inspect the gaskets and hoses.

The commercial sensor/automated faucet does not turn on when I wave my hands.

Ensure the control stop (water shut off valve) is fully open. The sensor window might be dirty or clouded with hard water stains. Wipe the sensor window with a soft cloth. Also, ensure that the electrical wiring connectors inside the under-counter control box are securely connected. Mistakes during installation or maintenance can lead to incorrect sensor range. To recalibrate the sensor, follow the steps below: - Unplug the sensor wire and back up battery wire harnesses from the controller - Wait 5-7 minutes - Ensure the sensor is clean, and there is nothing inside the sink area - Plug in both wire harnesses to initiate the sensor calibration. A red light will blink in the sensor window every 4 seconds - Leave the area undisturbed for 5-7 minutes, or until the light stops blinking - Test the function normally, by placing for hands naturally in the sink for a few seconds (do not wear black gloves during testing, as sensor may not register) If water flow does not trigger, contact TOTO Technical Service for further troubleshooting. 📞 Phone: Call (888) 295-8134, Option 4 (Toll-Free), Hours: Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM EST 🌐 Online Request (24/7): https://www.totousa.com/toto-customer-support

Water keeps running continuously from the sensor/automated faucet and won’t stop. How can I shut it off?

Locate the control stop (shut-off valve) underneath the sink and turn off the water completely. Remove the metal portion of the solenoid from the plastic base. Check the plunger located on the underside of the metal portion. Ensure it is not stuck, wedged, or damaged. Afterward, clean or replace the solenoid valve.

The automatic soap dispenser (Auto Soap Dispenser) sensor doesn’t respond and won’t dispense soap.

Wipe any grime off the sensor window. Also, check if the liquid soap tank is empty, or verify the power source of the under-counter control box (ensure the AC plug hasn’t been pulled or check for dead batteries).

Liquid soap keeps dripping continuously from the soap dispenser nozzle.

Soap may have dried and hardened inside the nozzle valve, or foreign matter may be trapped. Wrap the nozzle tip with a cloth soaked in warm water (approx. 104°F/40°C) to dissolve the hardened soap. If it continues to leak, the internal check valve needs replacement.

The urinal is draining very slowly and backing up.

Uric acid scale (calcium deposits from urine) has likely built up inside the urinal’s internal trap. You can use a commercial urinal descaler, or remove the ceramic strainer to brush and clean out the trapway directly.

There is a strong ammonia or sewer smell coming from the urinal.

If usage is low, the water seal inside the trap may have evaporated, allowing sewer gases to escape. Alternatively, uric acid scale may be clinging under the rim or strainer. Flush manually to restore the water seal and clean thoroughly with an acidic bowl cleaner.

The ceramic strainer covering the drain hole is broken. Is it okay to leave it?

No. Using a urinal with a broken strainer will allow debris like gum, trash, or cigarette butts to fall into the trapway, causing clogs that may require removing the entire urinal from the wall. Replace the strainer immediately.

Water is leaking from the bottom of the urinal where it meets the wall (or floor).

The gasket sealing the connection between the urinal and the drain pipe (flange) has likely failed. The urinal must be removed from the wall to replace the gasket.

A solid object fell deep into the urinal trapway. Can I get it out?

If it is near the surface, you might be able to retrieve it with tweezers. If it has fallen deep into the internal trap, do not use a plunger, as this will push it tighter. A professional plumber will need to dismount the urinal from the wall to extract the object.

6. Parts, Warranty & Support
Parts Identified
I have an older/discontinued in-wall flush valve and need a replacement part. How can I find a compatible part?

We understand it can be challenging to find parts for discontinued models. For in-wall (concealed) flush valves (EFVs), original parts may have been replaced with revised part numbers. Please contact TOTO Tech Support with the original part number or your EFV model number (often on a sticker on the rear side of the wall plate), and our technicians will identify the correct compatible replacement part.

The flush plate for my in-wall toilet (YT994) is discontinued. What can I use as a replacement?

If you have the WT174 in-wall tank, any flush plate from our YT9 series is compatible. For a white finish, we recommend the YT930 or YT920 models as suitable replacements.

I am installing a WT173M / WT172M in-wall tank system and need an angle stop and the 1/2 inch plastic tip for the water source. Does TOTO sell this tip?

Installation of an angle stop and TOTO adaptor are required to connect a WASHLET to your TOTO in-wall tank. THU807 is the correct part for installation with the WT172M carrier, while THU805 is the correct part for the WT173M carrier.

We misplaced "Bag 2" (installation hardware) for the WT173M / WT172M in-wall tank. Can I order "Bag 2" as a single item?

No, the installation hardware in "Bag 2" is not sold as a single combined kit. Each part (flange, inlet, nuts, washers, studs, caps) has a separate part number. Please check the parts breakdown for your specific in-wall carrier model to order the specific parts you need.

I need to replace the seat on my NEOREST toilet (e.g., SN988M) because it is cracked. Can I just buy a new seat?

NEOREST and WASHLET seats have integrated heating elements and wiring, so they need to be replaced by a certified TOTO repair technician. Contact TOTO Tech Service to assist with service options.

I need to replace the flapper on my toilet (models like ST743S, ST753, ST784S). What is the correct part number?

For many of our standard 2-piece toilets (including models like ST743S, ST753, and ST784S), you can use our universal 3-inch flapper. The correct replacement part number is THU500S.

I am looking for a replacement part for an older or discontinued toilet, but the part number I have (e.g., TH559EDV306R piston assembly) is no longer available. What should I do?

If a specific internal part (like an older brass piston assembly) is discontinued, it often means the entire internal valve assembly needs to be updated or replaced with a newer version. Please contact Tech Support with your toilet’s model number, and we will provide the superseding part number or the current replacement kit.

The replacement part number I was given has a different letter at the end than my original part. Will it still fit?

Yes, in most cases, TOTO updates part numbers slightly over time (often by changing a letter at the end, such as from ‘A’ to ‘B’ or ‘R’) to indicate a newer manufacturing version or an updated material. As long as the base number is the same and Tech Support or an authorized distributor provided it, it is a direct replacement and will fit.

Where can I purchase TOTO replacement parts (like a THU500S flapper or fill valve)? Can I order directly from Tech Support?

TOTO Tech Support does not sell parts directly to consumers. However, you can easily purchase authorized TOTO replacement parts through our network of local distributors, plumbing supply stores, or online retailers (such as Amazon).

The rubber bumpers (cushions) under the toilet seat fell off.

Using the seat without bumpers can cause the plastic seat to crack under your weight. Please purchase replacement bumpers as spare parts and install them.

If only the lid (or only the seat) breaks, can I replace just that one part?

For standard TOTO Soft-Close toilet seats, breakage requires complete replacement. For WASHLET and NEOREST products, it is possible to replace only the lid on certain models, while damage to the seat hinge and seat itself require repair by a certified technician.

I cannot find the model number for my toilet to order a replacement flapper. Where is it located?

The toilet tank model number is located either on a sticker, or stamped in black ink on the inside back wall of the toilet tank. It usually starts with "ST" or "CST" followed by a 3-digit number and letters (e.g., ST454E or CST744). Please do not use the numbers found underneath the tank lid, as those only correspond to the lid itself.

I am trying to replace a part on my older toilet, but the model number inside the tank is faded and unreadable. What should I do?

I understand how difficult it can be when the ink stamp fades. If you cannot read the "ST" or "CST" model number inside the tank, please take two clear photos: 1. One from the front of the toilet with the lid down. 2. One side profile showing the entire toilet. Email these photos to our Tech Support team, and we will gladly help identify your specific toilet model and the parts you need!

I can’t find the mounting screw for the WASHLET remote control. (or I lost the screw)

The mounting screw for the remote control is included in the original packaging, typically inside a small plastic bag along with the Installation Manual or the remote itself. Please check the box thoroughly. Note that this screw is not sold as a separate replacement part. If you cannot locate it, you can take the remote base plate to a local hardware store to find a matching screw. This screw is not essential to keeping the remote on the bracket, but does prevent the remote from being removed from the wall hanger.
